If you read Denver's Original Gangsters: 1986 Rolling 30 Crips - The Denver Post you'd think Denver is overrun with gangs. What do you think about the article?

It's the first article I've seen in the Denver Post on the topic.

Stats from the data side of City-Data indicate a crime index of 410, versus a national average of 321. By comparison, ABQ, NM is 579, Phoenix is 546, Dallas is 696, and L.A., CA is 356.

No. Denver is not overrun with gangs. There are gangs but I don't think anyone is saying this city is "overrun" with them. I did find the article to be very interesting with some compelling insight into the history of the Rolling 30 Crips. But much of the article's focus was on that very history going back to 1986.

As for the future of gangs, as long as there is a market for illegal drugs, there will be gangs to deliver those drugs. If the government legalized and regulated the drug market, gangs would pretty much disappear. I'm not saying that's what should happen, but it is interesting to think about.

The Rolling 30s Crips emerged in the mid-1980s as the first of the violent Los Angeles-style gangs to expand into Denver. Its leaders were Michael Asberry, a northeast Denver teen, and Jefferson and Albert Jones, two Los Angeles transplants moved to Denver by their mothers to escape the gang lifestyle.

Oh, dear lord! LA has spread its mess everywhere. Please, forgive us.

My guess is less than some larger cities and more than other cities. Average. Are they here? Absolutely. Is it a problem? Obviously. Are we "overrun" and fearful as innocent bystanders. Hardly.

Of course that's not gonna happen even thought I totally agree with you. The government makes too much money distributing drugs, and to privatize it would just lessen that profit. I don't normally do this, but you have to watch this video on youtube called "Ring of Power". Yes it is very long and sort of monotone, but it is very informational and can answer many questions you may have.

Just like doing away with prohibition made the mob/mafia etc go away?

Just the other day I had to run as the crips chased me out of North Aurora. Oh wait ... seriously? Puh-****ing-leeze.
