I've heard a lot about Cherry Creek Village and Cherry Creek School District. What and where is Cherry Creek and is it a good location?

You mean Cherry Hills Village, just south of Denver in Arapahoe County. Cherry Creek Schools, SE Denver & a good portion of Arapahoe County.

A good location compared to what?

"Cherry Creek" refers to at least half a dozen different things:

"Cherry Creek School District"-- which encompasses some of the south and southeast suburbs, parts of Greenwood Village, Centennial, Glendale, unincorporated Arapahoe County, and Aurora
"The Cherry Creek"-- the actual river/creek that all these names are named after
"Cherry Creek State Park"-- nature area centered around a huge dam
"Cherry Creek"/"Cherry Creek North"-- a wealthy neighborhood in Denver just north of the Cherry Creek Mall with tons of restaurants and boutique shopping
"The Cherry Creek Mall"-- an indoor shopping mall just south of that neighborhood
"Cherry Hills Village"-- an exclusive suburban/ semi-rural neighborhood in between Greenwood Village, Englewood, and Denver.

Cherry Hills is an expensive area of town where many homes sit on acreage, allow horses, and has a limited commercial tax base to support services. Homes here are very expensive. Cherry Creek School District covers a wide expanse and likewise many communities. Some people sing it's praises and others loath it. Depends on how you raised your kids as to what they will do in a particular school. There are also many other great schools in other districts. Now you can get all kinds of school information on line, so have at it.

Cherry Creek South Drive; is this a nice neighborhood? I consider to move there (from Florida) for a transitional period of some months, until we've found a nice house in the suburbs.

That's a street, not a neighborhood. It's mostly in Glendale. Mostly in an alright area, but there are some apartment buildings that look a little bit sketchy.

It's not so easy to find an apartment with a short term lease for approx. three months. I would love to live in a really decent area but I don't know where this is. :-(

ClaraBlum -- for just three months I would suggest corporate housing instead of an apartment. The rent will be slightly more, but the place will be completely furnished (towels, pots, pans, everything) so you can leave your stuff in storage until you find a place (so you only have to move once!). Corporate housing is typically in decent areas too. Just Google "corporate housing Denver" and you should find plenty of options.
