We currently live in the northern suburbs of Dallas, and just found out yesterday that we'll be moving to Denver (as soon as we can sell our home here). My husband will be working downtown, and we are hoping to find a (newer-less than 10 years old) house in an area no more than a 30-45 minute commute from downtown. We have a 15 y/o DD and a 13 y/o DS (who has Autism), so good schools are important. Our budget is in the neighborhood of $300k (give or take $20K). I'd appreciate any information/suggestions on suburbs/neighborhoods. Thanks very much!

You may want to look at the area south of town. The south and southeast sections (Lone Tree, Parker, Highlands Ranch) are within your commute distance and offer everything you would want in a cookie cutter subdivision. Good Schools, low crime and steady home resale values. Its typical suburbia. If you are looking for an acre or more of land in your price range, you wont find that unless you look much farther out. Most likely 60 - 90 minute commute to downtown. You might find some in eastern Parker, but you will have to look.

Saw this in another thread today:

Colorado School Performance Maps

You could also consider North of town, Broomfield or even west into Golden with your requirements.

Welcome to Denver.

I'd stick to the light rail lines. SE, or SW. Look in Englewood, Littleton (dougco, arapahoe county & Jeffco,) Denver, Centennial....parking is a pain downtown.

I agree with the above posts. It's easy to get downtown from the south area because of light rail. We ride light rail to work or play downtown. It's easy and not really longer than driving.

Well, we are back from our first househunting trip. We LOVE the Denver area as a whole, but were pretty depressed after looking at some houses in the Cherry Creek SD with our Realtor. You really do get what you pay for there. We're going to have to pony up more $$$ to get something that fits our needs that we really like. So now we're looking at Littleton, Highlands Ranch and Castle Rock. We loved the Meadows area of Castle Rock, but are worried about the commute to downtown Denver.

ugh, no way would I want to commute from Castle Rock to Denver. And then think of the ride home! (traffic). I'd stick with the other neighborhoods you mentioned. I commute to downtown from the north and even that's a pain, but at least my work pays for my ecopass (bus) and I take an express downtown that drops me off smack on the 16th St. Mall. The farther out you go, the less frequent the buses run.

Also, there are areas outside of Cherry Creek that are nice too, just not directly in Cherry Creek. The area around Lowry is very nice.
