Hello! We are looking to move to the Denver area for my husband's job located in Golden. We are mainly focused on shorter commute and good schools. He would ideally like to be within a 20 minute drive. We have 2 kids (7 and 10) and are looking for schools with a safe, friendly atmosphere with strong academics. To give an idea, we are thinking UC Boulder or School of Mines would be excellent college options. Budget for SFH is around 650k, but could go to 850k if absolutely necessary. If given a choice between natural beauty vs. city atmosphere, we'd prefer the natural. Does anyone have specific neighborhood or school suggestions?

As others noted, your budget may dictate where you have to live, rather than where you want to live. My recommendation would be to see, on Zillow/Realtor.com, what your budget gets you, then exploring school rankings in those neighborhoods. Lots of data online.

Most area public schools will prepare your child to be a decent candidate for CU Boulder; School of Mines is a different story - the admissions are quite competitive and it's not a school for everyone (specialized, selective, tough academically, etc.) Don't forget there are other options as well: Colorado State, University of Norther Colorado, and University of Colorado, Denver and University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

I would start by looking in Golden first, or places that have a Golden mailing address. You might be able to find something with the budget you mention. There may be some good options in Pleasant View, West Pleasant View, or Applewood (all basically unincorporated communities in Jefferson County).

I also personally like the Green Mountain neighborhood in Lakewood, which is not far from Golden at all. (ZIP Code 80228)

Hope this is helpful!

your housing budget may be low.

The W RTD lite rail line that goes that direction. buy a house walking distance to the rail line station. Gives you some options.
