Hey everybody. We're considering a move to Castle Rock and had a couple of questions. Was hoping some folks could answer here, and apologies if these have been posted before. I tried looking through the forum, but haven't seen these answered, at least not recently.

1. What's the current situation with water rights in Castle Rock? I remember hearing a few years ago that rights weren't originally managed well in relation to growth. Wondering if this has improved at all?

2. Has crime continued to remain low since its growth?

3. Is there public transportation to downtown Denver, or has commute-by-car improved to downtown in recent years, or gotten worse?

4. How would you rate Internet service in the area? Is it comparable to other places around Denver wrt. speed and reliability?

Thank you much

No public transportation to Denver.

New Hess Reservoir.

Terrible drive to downtown.

Consider something along the light rail rtd-denver.com

As much as I love CR, I'd really think twice about living here if I had to a daily commute to downtown (esp during regular peak traffic hours). I don't drive up to downtown often, but it seems to usually take me around 40 mins if I leave really early and there are no accidents, but an accident causing lane closure can double that time.

Crime is low... I think most people feel pretty safe here. Depending on where you are you can get great internet (I work from home and have comcast business grade internet). I'm not on city water so can't really speak to that.

I have employees that live there and commute to just the tech center and they hate the traffic. The growth has been more than the infrastructure can handle. There are better options: Castle Pines, Ridge Gate, Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch.

To answer your questions

I have not heard anything about the water/water issues over the past couple of years.

Crime is still relatively low and many people still feel it has a small town feel, however it is growing fast.

There are no good public transport options to downtown, the commute can be a headache if there are accidents, snow or rain.

I have heard internet service is decent there.

I'd estimate Downtown to Castle Rock would be 60-75 minutes in good rush hours. There would be the option to park and ride at the Lincoln Station and take the light rail to Downtown, which would be a 15 minute drive and a 40 minute or so train ride.

Also, your screenname makes me giggle.

Back when I a student at Colorado College (grew up in Longmont) it took 75 minutes from Longmont to C-Springs (going 65 mph back then).

Those were a.k.a. "The Good Old Days" back in the early 80's.

Were Longmont and C-Springs 25 miles closer together back in the day?

No- but traffic was not stop and go over Monument Hill or through Denver (prior to T-Rex) every day of the week either.

I was trying to compare the distance (as Westerner92 wrote) to a longer distance to show folks how it used to be getting around the Front Range.

Sorry for the confusion.

I was making a joke about how Longmont and Colorado Springs are 106 miles apart, but your math computes to a distance of 81 miles.

In my experience, getting outside of Downtown takes about 15-30 minutes longer at rush hour than at freeflow, and I-25 out to 470 takes about 15-30 minutes longer at rush hour than at freeflow.
