We are moving to Douglas County/Elbert County (still haven't decided) this Summer from Idaho and want to know if we should bring our boat? We have heard that waterski lakes are around but not abundant. Should we just sell our boat here or is it worth bringing with us? We don't mind driving if it is a worthwhile trip! We've heard that the lakes get so packed that it could actually be dangerous at times. If anyone could give us some feedback on this, that would be great. Thanks!

Chatfield Reservoir is in Douglas County. Cherry Creek Reservoir near the Denver Tech Center. People do water ski on both, but they always look really crowded. Don't know of any place to water ski in or near Elbert County.

Default What about fish?

DH really loves bass fishing. Not so crazy about fly fishing. During one of our "discussions" about the pros and cons of moving, he said there is no bass fishing in Colorado. I'm pretty sure that can't be entirely true. And why in the world is that ginormous Bass Pro Shop up there by Stapleton, if there is no bass fishing. Wouldn't that be kind of a misleading. Shouldn't it be Great Big Sporting Goods Shop, if there are no bass to be had?
Anyway, since he hardly ever actually goes fishing, even though he is surrounded by lakes here in Central TX, it isn't a really strong con. But I am curious--are there any big mouths (bass) out there?

Colorado Bass Fishing - Bass Fishing in CO

Colorado Bass Fishing Lakes

Colorados cold water is a limiting factor on bass fishing in CO. Many of the fisheries are too cold for bass. Those that are warm enough have a shorter growth season than lakes in the southern part of the states. Still there are nice opportunities for bass fishing in Colorado. Some of the major impoundments with a population of bass include Adobe Creek Reservoir, Bonny Reservoir, Carter Lake, Chatfield Reservoir, Horsetooth Lake, Lathrop State Park, McPhee Reservoir and Navajo Reservoir.

Red face Waterskiing AND Bass Fishing

Thank you for your responses. My DH is also very into bass fishing (or any kind of fishing.) That is one HUGE perk about Idaho. Just wanting to make sure that we are making the right decision by brining our boat with us. We've heard that Chatfield Resevoir is the place to go. Guess we will have to find out when we get there????
