Hi,
We are interested in buying a house in Centennial to start our family and with our given budget constraint (~350k) we consider Smoky Hill Neighborhood. Any comments on this neighborhood? Is it considered safe? Are schools alright?
I work at University of Colorado-Anschutz Campus. Are there any other family-friendly neighborhoods at similar or less driving distance?
Thanks much!

Stapleton is THE family friendly neighborhood near Anchutz, but I think you budget will be a little tight there.

Default I would take a different approach

1. Download this map http://www.cherrycreekschools.org/Di...istrictMap.pdf of the Cherry Creek School District.
2. Use Zillow to find your possibilities:
a. for under $350K
b. close to work

By the way. This is an excellent time of year to buy. Sellers really want to sell and quickly.

Do your initial research and then find a buyer's agent to help you.

It's a nice area. Yes, it is considered safe and the schools are good.
There are lots of nice neighborhoods closer to Hampden Ave that would keep you in the same school district and put you a little closer to the hospital but it really isn't a long drive either way.

Hi, that's a nice area.. I would recommend using www.recolordado.com to search for active listings in that area or close by.
This site is the most updated Real Estate search engine in Colorado. The very same site used by Realtors.
Use the map feature to narrow down by location.. Good luck with your search.

As others have stated, yes that is a good area.

To expand on your other questions:

1) Yes it is a safe. There are a lot of families who call that area home, and it is near a wide variety of shopping / dining / entertainment (the Arapahoe Crossings shopping area is a short drive away as well).

2) When it comes to schools, the characteristics that make a "good school" are different from family to family, so I can't really advise on what would make a good school for your family. However, the Cherry Creek School district is a very popular one among people out here. If you'd like to research the schools in that neighborhood, they are Trails West Elementary, Falcon Creek Middle School, and Grandview High.

I work in the Southlands Mall area off of Smoky Hill, and it is a nice area. A lot of families, and beautiful neighborhoods. Also, not a ton of apartments (compared to other areas) so less of that type of younger crowd it seems. I live near downtown Denver, so a lot more congestion and crime rate where I reside. It's nice to go to work in a "quiet" neighborhood sometimes!
