There's a ton of safe places in the Baltimore area....

A few miles west of the city is Howard County, whose schools score very high, and is very nice.

North of the city are fine areas.

I've even waxed eloquent in those forums about the little area called Relay, MD, in Baltimore County, a place that time forgot.

OP I'd make the move if it's for the sake of your work/life balance and seeing family. As Mike mentioned there are some neat places for families.

As an east coaster moving to Denver I say go. Just a few items. Crime depends on time and location. If you live in the burbs and don't frequent the hood at night you will be ok. The ocean is not that close though everything is relative. Camden Yards... Enough said. Proximity to everything on the east coast by train, or car. The east coast is a rat race just always remember to take people as they come.

Well, Dave, I have to confess you are "right". Some folks seem to find it necessary to be "right". But if you would read previous posts by numerous individuals on this thread, the comparison most of them are making is to the greater Baltimore area. There is no logic in comparing a compact section of the Denver metro area to the "greater" Baltimore area.

I learned long ago that it is more important to be effective than right. So as one dumb poster, I applaud you for being "right". You're not a lawyer are you?
