My girlfriend and I are relocating from CT to the Denver, Westminster, Thornton area at the end of next month. We are struggling finding a place. We are looking for a one bedroom with fire place that is around 700 a month and in a community that is mostly in their late 20's to late 30's. Have found a few places in Federal Heights but have been told there is crime in that area. Could anyone be an insite of where to start looking?
Thanks

Don't move to Federal Heights. It is one of the rougher areas of the Denver Metro area.

Drop your requirement for a fireplace, as apartments with gas fireplaces were all built fairly recently, and, in Denver, you cannot use a wood burning fireplace most days in the winter due to wood burning restrictions.

Use padmapper.com and raise your rent to $800 - $1000 to find better neighborhoods.

The rental market in greater Denver is really tight.
Rents are rising at 10%/yr.
Vacancy rates range from 1.5% to 4%.
Did I say tight.

WHERE are your jobs?

She has a internship in the Adams School District. I'm going out unemployed, we have savings but money is our main challenge. I'm currently looking for work in the mental health, special ed, non for profit fields.

Your budget is a bit low. If money is the priority, as you say, then you may need to make it the priority. You can stand a year in neighborhood that is less than hip, right? Traffic is not so bad here that you can't drive to nightlife, and the metro is spread out, so you'll be driving to different hotspots anyway. Is living ten minutes from a "20's-30's" neighborhood really so bad?

I would say 800-900 minimum for a decent place, and I'm not sure if I'd move without a job, especially if your gf's job is just an internship

Been looking for work out there. I feel it will be easier once I get out there and I can go to interviews. Just need to get out of CT.

Eh, I dunno, any place seriously interested would fly you out for an interview anyway. It might be a tad easier, but keep in mind there are plenty of people that live here already looking for jobs too

Keep in mind that the whole of the Denver metro is fairly safe. Compare the crime rates online to where you are living now and your sketchy area of Denver may come out ahead. Federal Heights may be an exception, however. I'd look at the edges of Denver or Aurora. I still think $700 would be slightly low, but closer.
