My girlfriend and I are moving to Denver w/ her 2yr old son in April, we just learned we are expecting our first child together somtime in Sep/Oct. We will be visiting first part of Feb to visit her father who lives in Parker and for us to find an apartment to live in for the first year and to put out our resumes.

We both work in the spa industry she does esthetics me a Massage Therapist. I'll be attending Boulder College of Massage for next 2yrs then onto Business school at U of Colorado and she will also be pursing her first degree.

We are looking for areas that are obviously safe for her son and your new little one, and places that are walking distance to parks and shops restaurants etc.

We are wanting to spend around 700-1200 in rent so that should put us in some nice areas, just not all to familiar w/ the regions in and around Denver.

Thanks in Advance from the

Ryan Family

$700-1200 wont put you in some nice areas. Im not even sure you can find a 1 bedroom for that much in Boulder. It certainly wont put you anyplace near anything walkable in Boulder which is one of the most expensive cities to live in in the country.

You could get something in that range in Cap Hill or the DU area (University neighborhood). When I was living in Denver I paid $600/month for a 1 bd/1 ba by DU, and that seemed pretty standard. You can find a 2 bd/2 ba for under $1000 in that neighborhood, near the University & Harvard area south of DU. It's a pretty safe neighborhood (for the most part) and near the University light rail station. DU is great for a kid because the open spaces on campus. There is also Harvard Gulch park and Wash Park nearby. I really liked that area and would live there again.

Not looking at Boulder looking at Denver, and from what we've found thus far 1200 puts us at the door steps of Cherry Creek one of the nicest areas in Denver (atleast so we've been told)

Cherry Creek is about 40 miles and an hour's time away from the Boulder School of Massage and 32 miles and 45 minutes away from CU Boulder. IMO your quality of life would suffer with a commute like this, especially in the winter when a storm could double or triple the amount of time needed to make it from Denver to Boulder.

I would suggest something in Louisville or Broomfield; both are much closer to Boulder, and Louisville has a quaint old town area.

I would also recommend Broomfield for its location half way between Boulder and Denver. When we first moved here we rented a nice 2 bed/2bath townhome in Lafayette for about a $1000 a month. Both Lafayette and Louisville have nice little downtown areas. Everywhere in the metro is walking distance to a park. 2 years is a long time to commute from Denver to Boulder. We moved to Lafayette while we decided where we wanted to buy and ending up deciding we like being halfway between the 2 and bought a house in Broomfield.
