I have a job starting in September at U of Delaware and my husband has a lead in Annapolis (not definite yet, but thought I would see what people might have to say...)

We have a 3 yr. old so schools will be an issue soon. I would like to live somewhere that has some of the benefits of urban life--economic and racial diversity, cultural opportunities--and am concerned with some of what I have read online about the eastern shore, which seems like it may be too rural for my taste, but might make sense from a commuting standpoint.

Do you think staying along the 95 corridor will be a better bet? Should we focus more in Delaware or Maryland? We realize that if his opportunity pans out we are going to have to put some time into commuting, but luckily our academic jobs do have some flexibility with hours.

Any insights are welcome! Thanks much.

J&J:

Middletown DE might be a good choice to start. It used to be a sleepy town but the Mayor started - ambitiously - to annex county lands and has now created a place where many young people like you (with a toddler or two) have been moving there. There were some over-enthusiastic people amongst them that ended up getting caught in mortgage fiasco and therefore, there are quite a few good buying opportunities in that area. It is no big town but it has begun burgeoning and new businesses are venturing to move in.

It is closer to Newark and farther from Annapolis. I am assuming that your Husband would want it that way.

If you want to feel free to direct message me.

Oh and one more thing... staying close to I-95 may be good from cultural and transportation point of view for Mom but Annapolis is not easily accessible from say Glasgow(south of Newark) or Newark via I-95
