Genealogy can be a rewarding hobby. There are always interesting things to discover about one's family tree. You just have to be willing to search.
Of course, that's often easier said than done. Beyond a certain point, information can be hard to find. Where do you even start looking?
That is why Family Search created its online research classes. These classes introduce the best places to look for finding ancestry information. The classes are even country specific. That is helpful for people whose ancestors immigrated.
The U.S. research classes are at the bottom of the page. You will need to install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in to view them
A free service offered by the Church of the Latter Day Saints
I belong to many of these sites and have been doing genealogy for years. You can do a free ancestry.com subscription for about 2 weeks but you have to cancel when done and usually need a credit card. Also Ellis Island - FREE Port of New York Passenger Records Search is a pretty good site. Free Family Tree, Genealogy and Family History - MyHeritage.com , genetree and smgf are also good sites. If you go to alot of the mormon churches (latter day saints) they also have the computers with the built in software which you can use for free.
