We're considering installing turbine attic vents in our house to cool the attic and the 2nd story living space. It currently has 4 roof louvers. The house is two story about 12 years old and is still has the original roof.

We're looking for real life experience (good/bad) from people who has this vent system. Does the increase ventilation makes it cooler in the winter months? I've seen people cover the vents during the winter.

A roofing/vent contractor looked in the attic and on the roof and determined three turbines is sufficient to replace the louvers and should be enough to make the attic cooler in the summer. Has anybody tried to install these themselves? If not, what's a good price range per turbine installed in this area?
