The jobs listed in the post are summer internships funded by Exxon Mobile -- definitely great for college students who need something to do on summer break, but I don't think that the positions are funded beyond the summer. 75 Nonprofits Seek Interns for ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program (http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/exxonmobil/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&ndmConfigId=1001106& newsId=20090212005049&newsLang=en - broken link) (I volunteer with one of the organizations on the list.) However, a foot in the door is always a good place to start . . .

thanks for the info--many of the jobs are not on the sites themselves which is explained since they are summer jobs only...although they don't always read that way...

They are not funded by ExxonMobil after the internship and I would suspect in this economy will not be funded after by the agencies either.

But I will vouch for the program. I've worked with 3 EM interns and they were all top-notch. The program doesn't just pick out random kids and dump them on non-profits to just do with them what they will. It's very competitive and very structured with ongoing interaction from the folks that run the program.

I actually just ran into an intern I met a few years ago that was working for the non-profit I was at. She's kept in touch with the people from that department and still raves about the experience.

Default Community Summer Jobs Program

In Dallas 75 agencies are selected through competitive applications to be placement sites for interns over 8 weeks. The agencies get a grant, then pay the intern. There are strong leadership components for students during this summer session. Agencies apply in December, learn their status in January, begin the search for interns and try to conduct interviews during spring break, so that the agency's hiring process is complete by April... very competitive for students interviewing, also. Great opportunity if you get to be one of the 75!

One summer as a college student I started a window washing business and I had plenty of work all summer. I perfected my technique on my parents' house before I started this venture. Back then, in 1970, I charged 50 cents a window. I know times have changed but perhaps he can think of some way to develop his own business or at least wash your windows or do other things around the house to apply towards rent.
