Hi, I am looking for an efficiency apt to rent mainly in Uptown Dallas (or near Oak lawn/Turtle Creek area).

I don't want to go through a real estate agent because I feel that they always try to show you expensive places, esp with all these luxury apts in Uptown.

I am looking for something that is small, monthly rent under $600, with central A/C and parking space. I will have a car with me, so I don't really care about if the stores are nearby.

Any recommendations?

guys--have you run a search on Google for any apts in those areas and checked the prices???

try site called sublet.com that came up on Google maps for apt in Oak Lawn area--

Google maps will red dot apts if you just run search for main area and then ask for "apartment"
click on any of the red dots and if there are reviews they will pop up

good luck--price is low--

1900 Elm downtown has some small units... but I think the smallest go for $675. You're not going to find many decent apartments for lower unless you look in the suburbs. Good luck.

Check on craigslist, but I doubt you will find anything in Uptown for under $700. It is a more affluent area of Dallas and they charge a lot to live there. You're basically paying for the name of the city (or area of the city) you live in. Check right on the border of Uptown, Greenville Ave and Lakewood. You're more likely to find something in your price range in those areas.

Also try checking backpage.com which is similar to craigslist but better to me.

I don't think you're going to have much success, or at least an easy time finding an efficiency in Uptown or Oak Lawn. In addition to links mentioned above you might also try the Dallas Observer in the classifieds.

Consider driving around Oak Lawn where you can find For Rent signs. Take the numbers or a cell phone to make the call. Especially North Oak Lawn, between Lemmon and Highland Park. Some of those old duplexes have garage apt's that seem to be fairly desireable.

Good luck

Actually, Willys, plenty of efficiencies, just not in the OPs price range.

Mine will be available June 1... Turtle Creek highrise condo building, but.... $900/month, not $600/month.

$600 is low. I don't know if you can find that anything in that price range in the areas you are looking.
