Can anyone recommend a tax preparer in the Royse City, Rockwall, Garland, Mesquite area? Our girl got out of the business and we are hesitant about H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt, etc.

Thanks

Unless your taxes are super complicated, I would recommend www.taxact.com

I was very scared to use H&R Block because my husband and I used a accountant for over 15 years back in California. When we moved back to Texas we struggled to find someone decent and not wanting to rip us off. We didn't find that person, so we went to H&R Block because it was down to the line of filing days. I have to say I use one girl and one girl only. She has been with H&R Block for five years, she also works for a bank during the day. She is in Rowlett- Dalrock Side. If you would like her info PM me and I will give you her name and number.

DONT go to Jackson-Hewitt, they train their employees with a one day class!

How is it at importing information from TurboTax or PDFs? I used to do my taxes by hand (1997-2005), but they have become more complicated and I started using TurboTax (2006-2008). I haven't bought the software yet for 2009's return, but obviously importing the data from the previous year's TurboTax is a significant plus for me.

That may be true in your area, but not in mine. Not only is it more than a one day class, there are continuing education modules to take every year to address the changes from one year to the next.

It was more than six weeks, twice a week, last time I took the required classes. In a pinch, though, they will let an experienced preparer take a knowledge test--if he or she can pass it with better than an 80%, the experienced preparer can do taxes. But they still require some of the "core modules" to be completed during the first week of employment.
