Can anybody provide an insight regarding the dyslexia programs in the public schools for these 2 cities? Any information would be extremely helpful. I am primarily interested programs at the elementary school level. Also... if anyone had switched to private after their experience.

Thanks.

i do not know about Coppell, I am sure they have a good program but I do know Highland shores which is part of Flower Mound district does. OUr granddaughter had a close friend who was dyslexic. The school started working with her in either 1st or 2nd grade, she is not a teacher herself and teaches special ed I believe.

I am dyslexic and only wish 50 plus years ago they would have had ways to detect this and work with special needs kids, but we were just considered a little lazy or dumb. Thank goodness my father didn't listen. I struggled but managed to get though college somehow.

Good luck,

Nita

SHELTON SCHOOL & EVALUATION CENTER
http://www.winston-school.org/Default.asp?bhcp=1

Both of these are private but came highly recommened when I was helping a friend find a school for her child.
They will also provide testing, and camps etc... even if your child is not enrolled.

I am a big proponet of public schools, except however in certin circumstances and your child would fit that for me.

Good luck.

I'm not sure about Coppell, but Flower Mound has an excellent program for dyslexic students. Most of the students graduate from the program by the time they finish elementary school. I know a couple of students who went through the program in elementary and are very successful students in middle and high school.

Default LISD Dyslexia Program Amazing!

I have a daughter who is Dyslexic. The Lewisville ISD Program and Dyslexia Specialists are AMAZING! I have heard so many wonderful things and experienced the progress myself! Other districts are slow to test and miss the learning window. LISD tests early and the testing is comprehensive. The program (called MTA) works wonders! Great District to be in if you have a Dyslexic child!!!
