Coming from North Carolina, we are only required to carry one license plate on our vehicles (rear bumper only). Has anyone else relocated here from a one plate state that did not have a front bracket and NOT put a plate on the front of their car?

Doing a search online it seems like there is a slight loophole in the law that only says you have to display the plate on the FRONT of the car, not necessarily on the bumper. Thus, some people have gotten away with putting it in thier front winshield.

I don't want to seem defiant (okay, maybe I am a little), but I have no intention of drilling holes into my otherwise blemish-free front bumper and sticking an ugly plate on it. Especially considering the re-sale value if I were to move back to a one plate state and had two to four holes drilled in it.

My front only has one hole. Attached to the hole is a plate holder with spots for the appropriate screws to attach the plate to the back of the plate holder. I bought the car, and the previous owner attached it. Don't know where he got it.

I drove in Texas with only a rear plate for nine years without issue.

A front plate is required by law. 99% of the cops do not enforce this law. No rear plate will get you pulled over in a hurry. Since most cities are having budget issues I am sure that there are more stops to generate revenue. You just need to ask yourself is it worth taking the risk. Your chances of getting pulled over by a surburban cop is much greater than getting pulled over by a Dallas cop. How much of a risk taker or you.

If you take the car to a one-plate state, people just leave the front plate holder empty. If you transfer your registration to TX, you will get 2 plates. Any future accident or ticket, they will notice you only have one plate. Not worth the hassle to me.

I've heard that, too, about getting an additional ticket if you're in an accident and have only one plate. You'll see people put the 2nd one in the windshield, but IHMO, that looks really tacky. Unless it's a classic car, or you're planning to move back to a one-plate state ASAP, install the second plate...

Indiana doesn't require two plates either and, yes, I had to drill holes into the front bumper of my car and whined and complained the whole time.

1. I have gotten a ticket for it. What is even worse it was from a Dallas PD and it was a BRAND NEW CAR WITH A PAPER TAG ON THE REAR! I went to court and got it dropped. But they DO give them out.

2. It is VERY dangerous to drive w/ a metal plate sitting on your front dash. Think of it as a projectile should you get hit and that piece of metal is now flying in your car and could be deadly. I would NOT put it there EVER. I'd just as soon go without the plate than have it sitting on my front dash.

3. I do have 1 car without the front tag. The dealer did not put it on there and I never have asked them too. The bracket and plate are in my trunk. I have gotten stopped in it for speeding but did not get a ticket for that. I wasn't going to ask him either

4. All of our classics have the front license plates. They are the antique plates though for the year the car was built. All of our other daily drivers have a front plate besides the 1.

5. Depending on the type of car it is the window film may counteract w/ a tolltag and make it not work. In this case you have to get this UGLY black bar that goes on the top of your front license plate. One of our cars has to have that because the special tint film from the car maker hinders the tolltag. Pain in the a....... And MUCH uglier than the plate itself.

My advice........... if your driving an average car (chevy, ford, dodge, etc) then don't worry about it and put the plate on. If your driving a high end car......... skip it and just pay the fine if you do get ticketed but don't whine about the ticket and just say "yes sir" and "no sir" to the officer as polite as you can And do NOT even say something about moving from out of state and not having it. Just politely say IF asked that the car came from out of state without the front bracket and you have orderd one from your dealer.

You can always put a "God is my Co-Pilot" or "go TAR HEELS" plate in the front. That will increase your resale value in NC.
