Hello everyone i have been thinking of moving to Dallas,Tx and joining the Dallas Police department. I'm a 31 year old singer mother and this will be something new for me. I'm living in Memphis,Tn right now but the jobs here pay really low. I would like some insight on Dallas and the life there and I would also like to know a little about the Dallas Police Department and why they are hiring so many new officers. This information would be of great help to me as i consider my move there with my children

You probly want to be sure you have a gig with DPD before moving here. If chances turned out wrong you'd be lost in the big city without much help or reference. Landing some other job might not be as easy as just being here.

You can search City-Data for previous threads discussing the DPD. You may want to Private Message one of the posters for further inquiry.

Here are my search results
Here's one of the threads from the search
Here's a DPD topical from Dec2007

Your search results may vary. Good luck.

I am new to Dallas myself. It's a big city surrounded by so many small cities "may I say", LA style. I believe, for any reason, if DPD won't work for you, you still have so many other PDs to explore. Good luck in the big D.

My favorite thing is that almost each neigborhood has an elementary school, I can see my kids' school from my front door. My wife walks them to school every day (no buses to catch). The second thing I like is getting around, so easy to navigate the city (get a Mapsco of Dallas, you'll find it handy). I love the fact that most major arteries (North-South or East-West) have at least 3 lanes. If you like to eat out, the choice is overwhelming, just do your homework. I like to eat in Restaurants uptown, but the variety is just difficult to keep up with. I like the weather much better that the midwest, but man! Dallasites can't drive when it's below zero. And from what I hear, the summer can get a little bit too hot. The bottom line is that whatever you look for, you will find. If you hate to drive, you will hate Dallas. Good luck.
