Hi everyone, I grew up in the Dallas area, left over 20 years ago for work, now relocating back home. Wife will be working at DFW International so just curious what neighborhoods nearby are recommended. We have one child elementary school aged so good schools are part of the plan. I know a lot has changed, especially traffic wise. So far it seems like Flower Mound and Argyle are the best for quick access to the airport. We also like Mckinney, Aubrey and it looks like Forney is getting built up. Would those be out of the question due to traffic? Looking to buy a house around $400k max, would like a large lot or acreage as well if possible. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks!

If your wife needs to be close to DFW, then McKinney, Aubrey, Forney, and Argyle are not going to work. Those would all be lengthy commutes of over an hour each way (Argyle would be about 45 minutes in traffic), several of them would require using an expensive toll road. Unfortunately, due to the growth in the DFW area, getting acreage in your price range is just about impossible.

Since you are looking for good schools and close to the airport, I would highly recommend looking in NE Tarrant County, and in the cities of Grapevine, Colleyville, and the north part of Euless. All of these share the same school district (https://www.gcisd.net/), which is very highly regarded, and they have homes in your price range. And to keep your wife's commute short, all of them have access to DFW Airport without even getting on a highway!

Grapevine is the first place that comes to mind to be close to DFW.

Forney is basically on the other side of the world to DFW Airport

If you are willing to look out a little further, Roanoke is another option that isn’t too far from DFW. It is a small city that is still affordable compared to Grapevine, Colleyville, etc. Roanoke is part of NWISD which is considered a great school district.

I'd look at HEB area---Hurst Euless Bedford.
Argyle might be tough at $400K.
Flower Mound would be possible.

I can't imagine living in Forney and driving to DFW.

Are you ok with resale homes or are you looking for new homes?
