We were on Binkley between the middle school and Hillcrest - there definitely were families, but I didn't feel like there were ever a lot of kids running around. I think that the west side of the middle school is probably a little more that way - the east side has more SMU living and the day care up on the corner and then the carpool line that makes it less pleasant to play out front. I feel like the main determinant of kids playing is basically whether you luck into having kids similar ages who want to play. We have not had great luck with that - a lot of kids are very heavily scheduled and not as available to come out and play as I remember being as a child - but I've had friends that have ended up with very close friends living nearby and the kids running back and forth from house to house. So I would tend to think it's more dependent on whether your kids happen to find a good match somewhere than where you live, although you get a lot more available options on a SFA block than somewhere the lots are huge.
