Hi all, I’m looking for some information on a very limited timescale. My husband has just been offered a job in the Westlake area. We have 4 weeks in which to move. We have enjoyed Denver which has been fantastic and we are blessed with this opportunity and look forward to this new season and getting to know new people.

Whilst my husband focuses on work I’m having to find details on homes.
We are an interracial couple (wm/bf) and so with this in mind we would like to move somewhere that we would be comfortable.

We are looking for somewhere quiet/suburbs, safe, and our budget is $250,000 max. We will be hopefully looking to start a family too, so safety is key. We are not city people at all and so are not looking for anything in those areas. We enjoy simple pleasures and don’t need too much dazzle around us.

Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to read my post and offer any advice.

Westlake, Trophy Club and Southlake are over your budget. Look in North Richland Hills, also north of Hwy. 183 in Hurst, Bedford or Euless. Don’t worry about being an interracial couple; quite common and all these places are diverse.

I am not familiar with Roanoke, but that is close and more affordable.

Also look west of I35W: Justin, Northlake, Ponder and Rhome.

Your budget is fairly low for DFW so you’re not going to be able to be picky.

Thanks ChristieP! I think that we may have to up our budget! We are able to do that, We just wanted to see if we could get somewhere decent for $250,000 max. Reality is setting in!
My husband says he likes what he’s read of Denton although not sure because of his commute to Westlake. It would be a 9-5 job.
So it looks like would then have to go up in price. Do you know what Denton/Corinth is like? Especially diversity?
Thank you!

Corinth to Westlake will not be a good commute. He'd have to use small farm roads which surprisingly have heavy traffic, and 377, which is only 2 lanes and also has very heavy traffic.

Denton is nice. Again, stay on the west side near I35W so his commute will be easier.

I'm guessing your husband works for Fidelity. There are a lot of Fidelity folks who live in Keller and Justin, there is plenty of housing stock in your price range there. They would also be an easy commute.

Maybe Schwab. Schwab has a big presence in the Denver Tech Center area.

Welcome from someone who made the move from Denver to Austin once, and after a couple other moves, again from Denver to Dallas in 2012.

You will probably encounter racism. I was at the direct receiving end by white males twice, once in Dallas and once in Ft. Worth. Definitely not frequent, but it's there, sometimes overt (try an internet search for Jim's Rodeo Tavern), sometimes hidden. I can't help you with the area that far west, just remember this is a very conservative state, but does have blue cities. I'd search for those areas if you can.

Oh wow! I’m really sorry to hear about your experiences. That must have been so awful. That’s what we want to avoid.
That is a great help and we will definitely be looking closely at areas. I guess even renting until we find somewhere that is a good fit for us.
