I am about to lose almost 5k (or more until it's leased) for breaking a lease and not moving into a house in Sachse (Where I signed a lease) that is about 25 houses and Highway 78 to the train. I know it's a quiet zone now, but wondering if I will hear the actual train on the track. I am a VERY light sleeper with some brain damage and spinal damage, so highly sensitive to sounds and need sleep. There are very nice houses in this area near Brookhollow and Lee Hutson, so I went out there and asked and everyone except one said they could not hear the movement. One lady said she could feel vibrations, but she is much closer. I don't believe vibrations will be an issue, but the loud "chug-chug" of the train running in the middle of the night while I am trying to sleep. I feel stupid for not seeing this on the map when looking at the house.

Can anyone help or have experience living in Sachse?

It's 25 houses away AND across the highway? I doubt you could hear the actual sound of the train (minus the horn). I'd be more worried about a neighbor's dog or someone's loud car/truck than the train if it's really that far away. And how often does the train actually go through there?

I tried to call the railway and there is no schedule, but based on my research, it's during the day a few times and then at night a few times. I heard it also goes through about 3 times during sleeping hours, like 2, 4 and 6am. So, I'm guessing 9 times a day, maybe. My concern is the 2, 4 and 6am. I do recall living in West Plano from 2008-2013 and could almost see the train from my townhome and you could hear it if you were outside and a bit inside and it had a horn, so you could hear that, but I only heard it a few times during that time, but I vowed for my own sanity to never live near an airport or train tracks.

Both neighbors each have yappy dogs that mainly stay inside and they are not a concern at all; easy to drown out. And, yes, there will be trucks or cars, but my bedroom will be in the back and I always have this loud air filters and wear earplugs, so dogs and cars are not an issue. Just the train.

I seriously doubt it would be a problem, especially at night. I live less than a half mile from tracks where a freight train comes through several times a day. I hear the horn, but it's not an overwhelming sound, and if I have a fan on, I can't hear it at all. I certainly can't hear the sound of the tracks. Plus, most trains can't blow horns, etc. past a certain time in the evening - I think the latest whistle we hear near our house is around 7:30 PM.

I did grow up down the street from a commuter line that went through at LEAST 50 times per day, and I didn't even find that very excessive, especially with a little white noise.

I lived in the area for a few years, 1/4 - 1/2 mile from the tracks, would be about the same as your 25 houses. I never heard the train unless I was awake in the middle of the night and there were no other activity going on. It never woke me up. I also worked from home and never heard it during the day.

If lease issue won't work out then just invest in some good earplugs.

Even if there is some noise, your brain will adjust and tune it out.

Whereas me....I can hear a train 5+ mi away which is one reason I rejected the Wylie/Sachse 78 corridor when looking. That monster can be heard inside buildings miles away during the day. I have friends in the area that were "unaware" of the noise however...

Do you mean you can hear the Sachse train on the tracks w/out the horn?
