Regarding Dual Language, I believe numbersguy is correct when you look at programs nationally, i.e., test scores (which include majority ESL learners) tend to initially trail and then catch up and/or outperform peers in later years. But like all other questions of education, it's all about the program, teaching and kids in the particular dual language program you are considering. I believe the kids within Lakewood's dual language program are consistently at or above their peers from the time of initial testing (at 2nd grade?).

But I think dual language generates attention for the other benefits it offers - including a greater appreciation of other cultures and stronger mastery of languages in general. Bilingual and multilingual kids and adults have stronger knowledge of the fundamentals of language. And yes, there is evidence that it works well if designed and implemented on certain models (which have been studied over more than two decades in some cases).

They are trying to appeal to more of the neighborhood families, but I don't think the movement has much traction. Almost everyone who lives in a single family home zone to Rogers either moves somewhere else for kindergarten or does private (Zion Lutheran & St Thomas Aquinas are nearby).

Lee is much further along as an "up and coming" elementary than Rogers. Plus, Rogers feeds into Franklin and Hillcrest which is a no-go.

Thanks a bunch.

We are locked into the school year right now so no move yet. We will spend more time in the neighborhoods that feed all three (Jackson, Lee and Lakewood) to get a feel and then start house hunting next April-ish.
