Hi all!

So I heard the commute from Dallas to Fort Worth (live in Dallas, work in FW) was pretty bad but now I am wondering if the commute from Dallas to Arlington is also really bad (live in Dallas, work in Arlington)? I might be moving to the Dallas area for a job and thought the job was in FW but just found out that it is actually in Arlington. So, my questions are...

Is the commute bad to Arlington if I want to live in Downtown Dallas? I really want to experience city living but not at the cost of a crazy long and stressful commute.

Would it be better to live in Fort Worth and commute to Arlington in terms of a more fun place to live? Or is Arlington (compared to FW or Dallas) a fun place to live?

I am 23, female and would be relocating from SoCal. I really want to live in an area that has a lot of stuff going on/ restaurants/bars/ shopping. Also, a place that has a younger crowd/ vibe. I don't know anyone that lives in Dallas so I am planning on joining some group and clubs to help make some friends. Thanks for your help!

I don't think it would be too bad once you get on 30. There are definitely more people heading east into Dallas than west, so it's a reverse commute. I prefer Dallas over Fort Worth and think it's a better city for young professionals. A lot more going on in the core: nightlife, restaurants, shopping, and more opportunities to connect with other young professionals.

Arlington is boring.

You'll be fine, just hop right on 30 and it shouldn't be too bad.

I usually can get from the West 7th area in Fort Worth to central Arlington in about 25 minutes, give or take a few.

It takes me 30+ minutes to get from Uptown to Arlington.

I would not consider that a bad commute.

I lived in North Oak Cliff (Not far from downtown) and commuted to Arlington for a bit. I was never in the car more than 20 minutes with a start time around 8. I was always against traffic- so barring an accident, it was smooth sailing.

Where in Arlington? The only problem with commuting there from either Dallas or Fort Worth is the two stadiums. If you have to drive past either one on a game night, especially Rangers, traffic can be gridlock. If your office is east of the stadiums, I'd recommend living in Dallas. If it's west of them, I'd say live in Fort Worth.

As Christie asks, where in Arlington? Arlington is huge and if in north Arlington, living in Dallas would be ok for commute. In southwest Arlington, better would be FTW

Neither commute is terrible, but Dallas to Arlington is the easier of the two. I would look at the following areas if I was you:

1) Bishop Arts- cool little community, not quite as safe as some, but a nice vibe
2) DT Fort Worth- very safe, nice, plenty going on.
3) Uptown. Not quite DT Dallas, but a wonderful scene for the young professional
4) Oaklawn/design district- cool new places to eat, a couple of cool bars, etc.
5) West Dallas. Just starting to grow with new apartment buildings. Not as safe as some, but commuting wise it would be good. New eateries.

If you are more conservative, I would pick DT Fort Worth or Uptown. If you like adventure/tighter budget, etc.- I would look at the other three.
