Sorry to have to ask about traffic again, but here goes. What direction is considered 'going opposite of traffic' in the morning and what direction is 'going opposite of traffic' in the evening? Which part of this commute (in either direction) is the most congested? I will be working in farmers branch and will probably live in north irving or richardson,

If you live in North Irving you never have to get on 635 to get to FB.

Riverside Drive turns into Valley View OR take Luna - Beltline into North FB. I never worry about the traffic because 635 is a road I don't use to get there.

You can get to FB from Richardson using Belt Line. You can get all the way to Irving using Belt Line.

If you live in Irving and work in FB you'll be going against traffic. Doesn't mean the commute would be fun, but it would be less painful than trying to get from FB to Irving.

Basically, you will do best avoiding LBJ/635 in any direction during rush hour. For 635, rush hour means 6am-9:30am and then 3:30pm-7:30pm its always congested. North Irving to FB is a pretty easy drive on surface streets. Richardson is worse.

I lived in FB and commuted to 114/McArthur. The Valley View route is the way to go. Perfectly reasonable commute. Richardson-FB depends totally on where in FB (the west side of 35?) and where in Richardson (east side of 75?). City streets may be fine (Beltline, or better yet Arapaho (factor in school zones)) if within 35/75. However, the Bush turnpike might be a better alternative if outside that area. 635 is a crap shoot, and will be until the construction is done.

Thanks all. Sounds like going eastbound from north irving to farmer branch on 635 in the morning is better than going westbound from richardson to farmers branch in the morning. Vice versa in the afternoon.

Eastbound 635 is terrible in the morning and evening from Irving to FB. You have 5 lanes narrow to 2 lane bottleneck at the 635/35 exchange.

Valley View is the best option as mentioned earlier. You would take 635 East to George Bush Tollway North. Exit immediately to Valley View. There are no tolls, since it's a free exit. Then, make a left to follow Valley View east. Now, you are in Farmer's Branch.

It takes me 5 minutes to go from MacArthur/635 to Luna Rd/Valley View in Farmer's Branch, during the evening rush hour. The morning wouldn't make much of a difference. It takes about 10 minutes to get to Valley View and Josey in FB.
