I currently live in Mckinney and I am looking for a shorter commute to my work in Downtown Dallas. I work really close to the Children's Medical Center. We have kids in elementary and middle school which means that schools is a big part of our decision. Our budget is limited to 200-225K houses.

We were looking into Flower Mound (30 mins w/out traffic), Coppell (21 mins w/out traffic) but since we're relatively new to the area we dont know about other options.

Any suggestions?

Coppell is a good 35 minute commute. FM depends on where you start can be 40-55 minutes.

Either city will have very limited inventory of homes in your price range. That price range is more like Lewisville.

Thanks for your response. My problem with Lewisville is that is further north, so the commute will be longer and that schools are not that good.

FloMo is tough going south in the morning and north in the evening on 2499 at 121. The traffic backs up really badly in rush hours. TxDOT is redoing the interchange but it is still a few years away. Also, homes there in that price range are few...

Look at the north part of Irving called Valley Ranch. West of MacArthur has Coppell schools. Again, price range will be an issue, but access to downtown will be much better, and DART is an option.

Another option is Euless. The part north of MidCities Blvd has GCISD schools and homes in your price range.

For $225k, you'll get about half the house that you'll get in McKinney. You ought to do some home shopping first.

What's wrong with Sachse or Allen ?

And Lewisville will be closer than FM.

What's wrong with East Plano or Richardson, for that matter? Better schools than McKinney, will cut 20+ minutes off your commute, and still a Tollroad-free drive. Even Garland has some great public school options and would cut the drive time in half.

Coppell doesn't make any sense given OP's budget. Flower Mound doesn't either, at least the parts of FM that would have a better commute than from McKinney.

My drive to Mckinney from work is easily 1 hour to an hour and a half in the mornings to almos 2 hours in the afternoon. That is why I'm looking to cut down on my commute. We dont mind getting into a smaller house as long as the schools are good. I've been living in TX for almost 3 years, but the 1st 2 we spent most of our time in Mckinney-Plano due to some medical issues. I appreciate all your imput, mostly because I am practically new to the area.

Thanks!

Her budget in FM probably means way north which will be at least 50-60 minutes to downtown. She might get lucky with something in far south FM.

It does not have to be FM, I am open to other areas with good schools as long as it cuts down my commute!

I live in lewisville (closer to highland village, flower mound area) 75077....I work in dallas (5mins from downtown) 75247 and on a good day in traffic it takes me 45 mins to get to work, it has taken me up to 1 hr but never more than that. I work 730a-430p (I know that makes a difference, I take 35, have taken 114 but about the same commute
