Hi All

I understand this may be a subjective question but how safe is it for a female to use the rail system, for those folks that use the DART during business hours to go downtown, have you had any issues or times where you have felt threatened or uneasy?

Thanks

What line would you be riding. I rode DART for 13 years and only once did we have any type of problem. In our case a drunk guy got on the bus and became loud. It took DART police 30 minutes to get him off the bus. Your question is hard to answer because I do not know what route you will be taking.

I will say that the Light Rail line from Plano to Downtown during day light hours has seemed incredibly safe to me, my wife and kiddos the few times we've taken it.

Admittedly, I ride the TRE a lot more than I ride DART rail, but I have never had a problem on any of the trains. The trains are pretty full during the busy commuting hours! DART does have police officers on the trains, and they do check tickets, too.

Compared to what, driving your own car and risking a breakdown on the tollway or interstate? Happened to me some years ago and yipes! that was scary. During business hours, DART is the way to go when it comes to safety.

During the day, on the lines out to the suburbs, DART train is quite safe. DART PD has stepped up its patrols and DART is more aggressive about ensuring people have tickets or passes. My wife has a great radar for people and it is only downtown that she gets some bad juju from time to time.

It used to be that after 9pm, it was not as safe. Three years ago, the urban night safaris used to be a lot of fun. I have to admit the last year has been pretty boring. I walked all over downtown twice last month and rode DART and did not even get an "interview." Sigh.

The real question is....what specifically would make you feel unsafe?
