Maybe i'm over-thinking this search. So i'm looking for privately owned condominiums for rent in the areas i want to rent. In my search, i noticed a couple of things during my search. Apartment complexes in Dallas referring to their apartment units as condos. My experience has been if a property is a condo it's privately owned. So i do not understand why apartment complexes post their units online as condominiums. I did not have this problem during my search in Atlanta. So i decided to only look at properties with MLS number, i swear i saw an apartment complex unit with an MLS number. I thought MLS registered properties were restricted to privately own properties. What's with the deceptive practices? It's making it hard for me to focus my search on just condos for rent. Is Dallas over-saturated with Apartment complexes are now they are desperate to rent out and using any means possible. If i'm not interested in apartment complex labeling it as a privately owned condo would not change my mind. After living in multiple apartment complexes in the past 10 years, I don't like how apartment complexes are managed and also it's better to live around homeowners. Sorry for my rant!

Where are you seeing apartment complexes advertising themselves as condos? I've lived in Dallas for over 6 years now and have lived in a couple of apartment complexes and have never seen any advertise themselves as condos.

Some apartment complexes and not all. If you have only lived in Apartment complexes and never lived or searched for privately owned condos especially in the areas i'm interested in, that's why you did not notice how some of the apartment complexes advertise their units . Like i said, Dallas seems to be oversaturated with apartment complexes. Do a quick search on Zillow.com to see what i'm talking about.

I know of a condo building that has a management office which will perform all property management duties (for a fee, of course) for owners. Also, because the building never completely sold out, the management office at the condo leases out those units, too. You may be encountering that type of situation.

I said that I have only lived in apartment complexes here in Dallas. I never said that I had only searched apartment complexes. I've always lived in apartment complexes here in Dallas (as opposed to back East) because there seem to be a lot more maintenance issues in apartments here in Dallas and larger complexes respond in the same day.

I've searched Zillow before which is why I'm confused by what you mean when you say that you see apartment complexes "misrepresenting" themselves as condos.

Good to know. That might actually be the reason why they are advertised as condos. Thanks
