Hello all!
My boyfriend has recently accepted a promotion/position in the Dallas area (Coppell) and we have decided to make the move together. I've never been to DFW area and am feeling completely overwhelmed trying to figure out cities/neighborhoods to find a rental. The realtor recommended to him by a colleague sends us listings in Plano. I've read wonderful things about Plano but I do not want to miss out on other great places. We are in our mid 30's and are coming from Ft Lauderdale area. Things we enjoy are dining and wining in unique restraunts, farmers markets, cooking, staying fit. I love the beach so something with a pool or access to one is a must (being near a lake would be even better). We are not party animals but we do enjoy an occasional date night so proximity to some kind of nightlife would be nice. Also, since I am not familiar with the hospitals, I will probably take short term assignments at the local trauma centers until I find a perfect fit. We certainly want a clean, safe and decent neighborhood (he prefers a house) and marriage and starting a family is in our 2 to 3 year plan, but I also don't want to be in total suburbia. Please please please any other cities we should not overlook on our house hunting trip next week?

Thank you very much for your help!

P.s what are your most trusted Trauma Centers or Icu?

First, there's no reason to live in Plano and make a commute to Coppell via a toll road. Coppell itself, as well as the suburbs nearer than Plano, are excellent places to live.

We will need your budget for both renting and buying to make specific recommendations.

As for hospitals, here you go:

Baylor and Parkland are both Level 1, and numerous others are level 2. Most of the hospitals are located closer in to downtown Dallas, so you would also have a lengthy commute from Plano.
