My family and I are moving to Dallas in a couple of months and we are looking for some of the better neighborhoods in Dallas to rent a 3 bedroom home. By better, we mean relatively low violent crime rate and good local public schools. Can you please provide neighborhoods and possibly zip codes that we should consider for our search?

Thank you in advance.

Thanks....I guess I should have mentioned that. I will be working near downtown Dallas. I am looking to stay within $1000 - $1150 a month.

75206 and 75214 - however you would have a difficult time finding a three bedroom home for that price. You may be able to find some apartments...

You're going to have an incredibly difficult time finding a 3 bedroom home for lease in the DFW area on that budget....especially considering you want good schools. Think $1500+++

Even 3-br apartments are out of your budget in almost all areas within a reasonable commute to downtown. I suggest looking at 2-BR apartments and having kids share a room. You *may* have luck in Far North Dallas (south of Bush Tollroad) along Frankford or Coit...apartments will be zoned to Plano ISD or Richardson ISD- both very good. Will be a 30-40 min drive into downtown with very heavy traffic in rush hour via 75. Tollroad is faster but cost about $3/day round trip.

OP, this is good advice. I sent more info in a PM, but if you can go up to $1500 there are several places listed that fit this description, including both 3BR, 2BR, houses and apartments.

This is a great City-Data mantra. I'm going to modify it, convert it to a haiku and make it my signature.

Third line of the haiku is: Quality of schools?

Dallas schools are mediocre at best. For convenience to downtown, affordable rentals and good schools, try the Coppell or Valley Ranch areas

Dallas does have many excellent schools and some of the best are about 10 minutes from downtown in the Lakewood/M-Street area. Coppell and Valley Ranch are not exactly convenient to downtown but they are generally cheaper...if you like sitting in freeway traffic then maybe they are better...

I have to disagree. I am one of the few that 'braved' moving INTO Dallas from a Northern Suburb (Frisco) and I can say - without a doubt that I am SO happy with the schools here. For reference - I live in the Lakewood/M-Streets area. I love it here as does my daughter. And downtown is so close and you can take side streets to get there. Just sayin'
