hi,

I am sorting out how to get the electricity turned on at our new place. I've never lived in Texas so I'm not familiar with how it works there. Wherever I've lived we had no choice in companies.

So, I went to the powertochoose website and I entered my zip code. Can I really use any of these companies listed?

Are all electric companies reliable or should I google reviews etc?

thanks

I'm new to all of this too, but if you click on "search this forum" and put in "electric", you will find a few threads that address this. I think what we need is a balance between rate & reliability. good luck!

Retail Electric Providers*«*Texas Electric Companies*:: List of Retail Electric Providers in Texas

Power to Choose

Electricity in Texas is deregulated, which means you can choose any provider working in your area. The electricity generally comes from the same source for all, though some may include alternative sources of energy.

Yes, you can choose any company servicing your area.

When I moved here I chose Startex and I have never had any problems. I just signed up for a year at 8.2 Always remember to sign up before the term is up or it will go up. Good luck.

Thank you! I did search this forum and read quite a lot. I guess it confuses me when it comes from the same source but there are so many companies to buy it from. I saw there are so many rates and contract terms. Wherever I've lived you have one company and one rate. Pros and cons. I'm just making sure I'm understanding correctly. I signed up for one company and when she asked me if theirs is the only company I'll be using. I didn't really understand that. I guess you can have several companies?? So I just kinda of said yes for now in a not so sure voice as it seemed like I had options.

Anyway, thanks. I have to peruse the terms.

take care

Thanks

I saw on the website that there are two companies offering 7.5 for a 12 months. Is there a particular reason you went with them or maybe other benefit that I don't understand?

When I didn't understand that I get choices I signed up for 9.9 for month to month. So I am going to read through and change this company.

I went with Startex myself and haven't found any gimmicks with them. What they offered is what I've gotten.
