We are a middle class family newly relocated here to Texas. We are now renting an apartment in the Grand Prairie,Tx area, which we are not to fond of this area. We would like to purchase our first home by next year, but we have two kids ages seventeen and eleven. We have looked at homes in several locations. We really like Carrollton,TX, Rowlett,TX and Cedar Hill,TX, our question is which one of the cities mentioned has the best school district? We are looking to spend around two hundred thousand on a home, but we would really like to purchase in a area with lots of diversity. Any help would be greatly helpful

Go to the Texas accountability ratings website and look up each disctrict. Then also look up the specific schools in the district. Hiwever, among your districts mentioned, Rowlett is the most likely to have schools your kids could attend that are exemplary or recognized.

IMO Rowlett is the best of those choices. Rowlett is served by Garland ISD but has a HS a couple of MS and several very good elementary schools. So it's definitely got that "hometown" vibe but at the same time GISD also offers a school choice program where you can send your child to other schools within the district. Say if you have them in daycare closer to work, you could send them to that school. Or in the older grades if there is a magnet program they would like to attend, or sports programs that are stronger. For example, on my street in Garland, my DD went to NFHS (neighborhood school), my neighbor's daughter stayed at GHS where they moved from and later her son went to Sachse HS because several of his friends/teammates went there. The girl down the street attended NFHS but her brother went thru the IB program at GHS. And the kids across the street both chose NGHS for the Math Science Academy. Lots of good options in Rowlett w GISD.

Some Cedar Hill homes feed into the Midlothian district, which I think is recognized. Have to verify the rating but you'd probably get the most value in Cedar Hill.

Ditto on Cedar Hill. According to your criteria, Cedar Hill is just right for you. You can get a lot of home, recognized schools and the diversity you desire.
