We just found out today that we are moving to the Dallas area and are very excited. My husband's job will be in Las Colinas. What areas are close with good school districts? I see lots of smaller areas around there and am very unfamiliar. We want a family friendly and safe area. We currently live in a neighborhood where everyone hangs out outside and the kids all play. I would love to find something similar! Thank you so much for your help! I am sure we will be asking lots of questions and digging through many threads! THANK YOU CITY DATA! Can't wait to be in Dallas!

Flower Mound would be a great option if you can spend $250,000 plus on a house. Flower Mound tax rate is 2.15% with great schools....

What's your budget? There are lots of good schools within an easy commute to Las Colinas.

Coppell (watch out for high property taxes)
Grapevine
Euless north of 183
Valley Ranch/north Irving

FloMo is a longer commute than any of these areas.

Plano is even further away then FloMo, and it's up a toll road, so figure $200 a month for tolls.

Big No to Plano; the commute is not worth it!

Some suggestions of locations (to give you a map fix)

Coppell is a very short commute to Las Colinas and is just about the highest rated school district in the area. Good small town feeling. You will get the least house for the money in Coppell and the taxes run a bit higher. However the area is sought after and homes generally sell quickly

844 Sugarberry Dr Coppell TX - Home For Sale and Real Estate Listing - MLS #11703399 - Realtor.com®

Colleyville is very desirable area and most of the homes are served by highly rated Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. You will generally get more land with a house in Colleyville:

2200 Long Shadow CT Colleyville TX - Home For Sale and Real Estate Listing - MLS #11701090 - Realtor.com®

Grapevine is a very family-friendly community w good schools and a very cute downtown area. It is very close to Las Colinas. Right now the traffic is a nightmare, however, because of major long term road construction.

4500 Ainsworth Cir Grapevine TX - Home For Sale and Real Estate Listing - MLS #11649674 - Realtor.com®

Irving, of course will be the shortest commute. The section in Irving north of hwy. 635 and west of MacArthur is served by Coppell schools. Valley Ranch is known for having tiny yards but a very upbeat, dynamic vibe. It has canals running thru it with great walking paths.

1085 Leisure Ln Irving TX - Home For Sale and Real Estate Listing - MLS #11666296 - Realtor.com®

Other places you might look into: Hurst, Euless & Bedford. These are all fine bedroom communities within a short distance to LC. These days the road construction makes the commute challenging....

The road construction in Grapevine is not "long term" at all! Yes, it is a mess now, but the project is already over 50% complete and the contractor is a year ahead of schedule! Once the work is complete, traffic in the area will be a breeze!

Colleyville is out of your price range. You really need at least $300k to get in there and not be competing with developers for an older, tear-down house.

In Hurst, Euless and Bedford, stay north of 183. Speaking of road construction, there is a major project on 183 that is just starting up and will be going on for the next 2 years.

What is Keller like? Is it a good area? We drove up to Dallas for the weekend and have scouted around a lot of these areas. Also for commute would Carrolton be to far? Do they have decent schools? Liked the older neighborhoods in that area. THANK You again for all your help. We really do not know much about the area and you are helping us a lot!
PS. Loved Coppell!
