We just found out today that we are moving to the Dallas area and are very excited. My husband's job will be in Las Colinas. What areas are close with good school districts? I see lots of smaller areas around there and am very unfamiliar. We want a family friendly and safe area. We currently live in a neighborhood where everyone hangs out outside and the kids all play. I would love to find something similar! Thank you so much for your help! I am sure we will be asking lots of questions and digging through many threads! THANK YOU CITY DATA! Flower Mound would be a great option if you can spend $250,000 plus on a house. Flower Mound tax rate is 2.15% with great schools....

Plano is even further away then FloMo, and it's up a toll road, so figure $200 a month for tolls.

Big No to Plano; the commute is not worth it!
Some suggestions of locations (to give you a map fix)
Coppell is a very short commute to Las Colinas and is just about the highest rated school district in the area. Good small town feeling. You will get the least house for the money in Coppell and the taxes run a bit higher. However the area is sought after and homes generally sell quickly

The road construction in Grapevine is not "long term" at all! Yes, it is a mess now, but the project is already over 50% complete and the contractor is a year ahead of schedule! Once the work is complete, traffic in the area will be a breeze!

What is Keller like? Is it a good area? We drove up to Dallas for the weekend and have scouted around a lot of these areas. Also for commute would Carrolton be to far? Do they have decent schools? Liked the older neighborhoods in that area. THANK You again for all your help. We really do not know much about the area and you are helping us a lot!
