Guys, its coming.

Alliance For Toll Interoperability

So, so get a tolltag and be done with it. If you happen to move to TX or get TX plates, you can then add them to your account.

Great to hear. I was worried I'd have to wait a couple of years for PA to refund the balance left on my EZ-Pass....

We'll consider one can't use Austin or Houston tolltags for the DFW airport, it's not going to be happening interstate anytime soon ...

I can speak from experience, I drove on some toll freeway unaware there were no manned booths...and with Florida tags. I never got a ticket either.

I think out of staters get a pass....but if the amount due becomes excessive, I am sure they hunt you down. I think a few times is fine, but if you will be using the roads regularly, you should get the tollpass even with an out of state car to play it safe. Who needs all the hassle of owing the government money and late fees and surcharges!

DFW airport isn't a toll authority. TollTag is already accepted on every toll road in Texas, expanded interoperability will be simple considering they've already got the system worked out.

The NTTA TollTag was the first electronic toll collection system in North America, they're generally ahead of the curve. Using it for parking at DFW and Downtown Dallas is still something of a novelty. The technology will catch on.

If your out of state tags have a current address I would wait for the bill. It is likely it will never come.

Default Texas toll fees for out of state vacationers

It seems we have no simple easy way of paying fees so we set the GPS to NO TOLLS and also stay
away from DFW, Austin, etc. There are lots of other good destinations in Texas that don't have tolls.
We love getting away from Ontario, Canada winters for a few months.

The worst thing that could happen is you have to pay the tolls.

I would imagine the worst thing that could happen is on the occasion of a visit to your family you see those flashing red lights in your rear view. Then a tall man in blue, or highway patrol asking to see your license and registration.

If you can post on this forum then it's probably not more difficult to look up and inquire with the toll authorities to get up to date info on how to handle your non-billed but overdue payment for toll usage. And document the call so when you get that $90 late fee you'll have a solid reason to ask to speak with a Supervisor - or his Manager.
