Hello,

This is my first post after reading this site for many months and through two major relocations.

My husband, two children (7 and 10), and I are possibly relocating to the Mesquite area. We would like to live in an area that is no more than a 20 minute (not miles) commute to Mesquite. We are looking at a price range of $200-250K. Our concerns / questions in order of importance are the following:

1) Safest community.
2) Best schools for 1st and 4th grades.
3) Best resale values.
4) Least congestion and easiest access to the rest of the Metroplex.
5) It would also be nice to be in an area that has lot sizes of at least a
quarter acre.

Additionally, we are an interracial family and are concerned about acceptance for our children within the schools and the community at large.

I thank you in advance for your comments and information.

You might look at Forney. I'm not so sure about Mesquite. I don't know if home prices are falling in all of Mesquite or just part of it. Most people I know who lived in Mesquite, left it and moved to Forney, Rockwall, Rowlett, Royse City. But again, it might just be a part of Mesquite that is in decline and not all of it.

Do a search here about Mesquite. Yes, the area is in decline. You won't find many homes in that price range since almost everything is cheaper than that!

I'd honestly recommend Sunnyvale. Most homes there have larger lots and are in that price range, and the area is a lot nicer than Mesquite. Rockwall is another thought.

Isn't Sunnyvale on the Ft. Worth side rather than Mesquite side? Just curious.

No, Sunnyvale is next to Mesquite. It's a nice area with nice houses on big lots, but I thought the schools just went to 8th grade and then you go into a Mesquite high school. But I could be wrong.

There are homes in Mesquite near Sunnyvale in the 200k-250k range. yes the sunnyvale schools only go to 8th grade and then you start in mesquite schoools. check out these zip codes 75181,75182. actually 75182 is sunnyvale and the newer homes start at about 300k now. 75181 is mesquite adjacent to sunnyvale.

Sunnyvale just passed a bond election to build its own High School. Not sure how soon it will open. Until then, kids go to Mesquite Poteet which is a good school with an excellent band program!
