We are moving from Charlotte to the Frisco area. We have a 5 yr old who is ready for kindergarten. We missed the original Frisco ISD registration dates. Would it be difficult to get our son into school or is it not going to be a big deal after all?

Please advise. Thanks in Advance.

No matter when you come, a public school must accept you... so if for some reason you miss the next set of registration dates, don't worry. They have to take you. :-)

Well, the only problem comes up if your neighborhood school is full, they can redirect you to another school. That happens in this neighborhood. One year, the elementary school totally filled with spring registration. But in Frisco, with so many newbies incoming all the time and they are aware of it, maybe that's not an issue out there.

A public school can't turn away a student Far North Dallas. They can turn away transfer request but not anyone else. This is a state law. I just dealt with this recently when helping a parent that called during summer school to ask the same question. My principal and registar told me that we have to accept all students regardless of numbers.

No, the district can send kids to other schools within their district in order to maintain the 22 cap.

Edited to add - I personally know people who have been sent to the next school over due to the school being full.

Far North Dallas I'm not hear to argue... your argument though is from 2003.

I don't know about what happened in 2003 in Richardson and I'm not familiar with Forest Lane Academy, but I can say that it doesn't happen any longer as it just is not allowed. Schools in Texas can close to individuals that want to transfer in to a particular building, but not if they live in the zone for the particular school.

Roonite, if you were to encounter a problem, which you won't unless you don't have the right paper credentials the district requires...shot records being the most important and proof of residence, you just need to contact TEA and ask for assistance. You won't have any problems though in districts such as Frisco, Carrollton-Farmers Branch, Coppell, Grapevine-Colleyville, Lewisiville .

These districts plan a year in advance for the following year. These are called projected enrollment figures in most school districts. At my school we knew we needed two more teachers, one for 4th grade, and one for kindergarten. So we hired for the expected growth. In the event the #'s don't make when school starts we generally will transfer the late hire to another school in the district that needs the extra teacher, or, more often than not a district will just keep the teacher at that school, because they know a particular school has a high turn over.

Roonite, also you will want to make sure your child's shot records are up to snuff for the State of Texas. This can postpone or delay the start of school for your child. I understand from parents that move from out of state, that the immunization law is different from state to state.

Oh, sorry, don't mean to sound argumentative. You're rockin' with my reality, but, hey, I'll get over it. Richardson has always had overflow kids and overflow schools in my memory, but perhaps that changed at some point. We left the public schools awhile back.
