Does anyone have any input on assisted living or nursing homes in the Plano/Richardson area? I may have to begin looking for a place for my mother and I'm not sure where to even begin. Any advice would be appreciated.

There's a Senior Residence on Spring Creek at Custer. I don't know anything about them or their reputation, but their website is theseniorresidences.com.

Also if I recall correctly someone's building a new facility on Spring Creek over at Ohio.

I've heard great things about this one that is in Richardson around Buckingham. Doing a quick Google from what I've been told it might be the one called Bristol at Buckingham. There is another that came up called Arden Court. I'm leaning towards it being the Bristol. I have two friends that both had either their mom or elderly aunt at the same one and I believe it was Briston and they were very happy w/ it and seemed to love it.

Good luck w/ your search and the possible move.

This is actually the industry I work in, although I am not a nurse.

There is a BIG difference between a nursing home and assisted living. You mom's level of care is what makes the difference. AL is for seniors who need help with daily care, such as managing their meds, bathing, and dressing. If a senior is incontinent, but otherwise able to care for themself, an AL is what they need. A nursing home is for seniors who are unable to care for themselves and need total care.

Do keep finances in mind, too. Medicare DOES NOT pay for nursing home care! Medicaid does, but you have to work through the process, which is lengthy and includes showing that the senior has no assets left.

Check out the Dept of Aging & Disability Services' website. They have an entire site specifically about choosing a nursing home: Long-Term Care Ombudsman: Choosing a nursing home (DADS)

You DEFINITELY want to check the various facilities' inspection scores, too. This sorts by zip code: LTC QRS Home - English

Arden Courts is VERY nice, but it is specifically an Alzheimer's assisted living facility and only takes residents who need that level of care.

I know this can be a tough time... Good luck in your search, and please DM me if you need more help.

I just wanted to wish you the best with this transition. We had to put my mom in a nursing home after a stroke and it was a very stressful time. Hopefully, you have some time and choices. Best of luck to you.

San Remo is a new facility in Richardson on Shiloh at Renner. Believe it's assisted since one of the residents orders sandwiches online from us (is that a weird way to make an assessment?)

I came across a service on the Internet called Senior Living Specialists that helps families in Dallas, Plano and Richardson with finding the best senior living option. They helped me and saved me a tremendous amount of time. The website is: Dallas Assisted Living & Fort Worth Assisted Living | Senior Living Specialists. Best of luck!

I live at the Bristol at Buckingham. It is an apartment complex for active seniors, age 55 and up. They do not offer assisted living.
