Baby steps. Make small changes a little at a time. Maybe substitute equal for sugar, whole grain products for white. Take walks. Park a little farther. Just make sure you eat breakfast. Eggs are great, even a ham and cheese omelette but it kick starts your metabolism.
Acknowledging a problem is step one. The poster who suggested baby steps was right on the mark. Rather than "dieting," try to initially eat half as much of everything you reach for. Also, incorporate natural exercise into your day-to-day life such as parking farther away (if you don't have physical conditions that would preclude this) and taking the stairs if possible. Also, try walking. It's easier on your joints. Walk for 15 minutes, then turn around and go back home...that's 30 minutes!
It's also important to not tell yourself that you're going to live the rest of your life without your favorite foods. IMO, any dietician should ask a client what they like to eat and incorporate those things, with possible modifications, into one's new way of eating.
You don't look 280 in your photo! If you eat fast food and drink soda and snack foods like chips, cut them out and shift to water and fresh vegetables, fruits and unprocessed foods, you'll soon drop weight.
Beer has a lot of calories and the gluten tends to give one a beer belly!
For those who don't like to cook, baking a skinless chicken breast in the oven along with some taters, carrots, squash or whatever else is a favorite vegetable requires no cooking skills--only the application of a little olive oil and a shake of favorite spices. And you can use the same baking pan for easy clean-up.
It's the little things that will keep you going as you begin to see results.
Dropping weight is one of the hardest things to do.
Right now, I'm recovering from surgery, trying to get back into exercise and I quit smoking. I know the struggle. Keep going and keep posting. It will help you stay motivated.
Thanks for the support. I think I ought to post a shirtless picture so that progress can be tracked more easily. Today I had a breakfast much small than what I am used to, for 600 calories. Had an omelette with vegetables instead of sausage and potatoes.
