Woman Sues Canada Dry Over Lack of Ginger in Ginger Ale | Fortune

Quote:
which advertises that it’s “made from real ginger” on the front of the can.
Bonus paragraph at the end...
Quote:
A similar case against Dr Pepper Snapple Group was brought before a judge in Missouri, but was dismissed in June, according to The Washington Post. Other food and beverage companies have faced accusations of false advertising in the past as well. Kellogg’s has been brought to court for not having real fruit in their Froot Loops, and Starbucks changed their pumpkin spice latte recipe in 2015 after being criticized for its lack of real pumpkin.

I know enough about the food industry to put them to levels closer to car salesmen vs. your friendly neighborhood diner. OTOH, despite how frivolous some of these seem, more knowledge getting out there, which can't be a bad thing.

I'd rather this lawsuit come from the FDA, but really, we need to be able to trust labeling. Don't lie about the ingredients! I want to be able to trust labelling when I buy food.

Kelloggs should get a pass - if you thought there was real froot in their cereal, you aren't eating enough real fruit.

Someone should sue every restaurant for photos of their meals that never look like the actual meal.

If they posted the real photos no one would eat their crap.

The food industry is poisoning us. Canada Dry USED to be made with real ginger. Coke used to be made with regular sugar. Subway got heat for using a chemical commonly found in gym mats in their bread. Why????

Agreed. But they have started using fruit based colorings instead of red # whatever in some of their cereals, so they felt the pressure.

I believe this same issue came up several years ago and Canada Dry was able to demonstrate there was real ginger extract in their soda. This plaintiff is arguing that Canada Dry's false advertising "has hurt her economically." Seriously? I hope the taxpayers of NY enjoy paying for their courts to deal with this nonsense.
