We are relocating to Cookeville/Smithville and looking for rental houses. I can find rentals in Cookeville, but I think we would all much rather be in Smithville. Problem is, I cannot seem to find any rental homes in Smithville which surprises me considering the semi resort/vacation nature of the area. I have been checking Craigslist (not the most reliable source) as well as Herald Citizen (no images and have not seen any for Smithville). Is there is any way to find rental homes in Smithville? Does anyone have a contact or way to search that I am missing? Thank you in advance!

Smithville itself is not a semi resort/vacation spot. Center Hill Lake is. Smithville happens to be the closest town to Center Hill, but it's just a very small country town with a Walmart and a few fast food joints. You might try searching for "Center Hill Lake rentals" if you want to rent in the area but don't need to be in Smithville proper. Still, most of the rentals available around Center Hill Lake are probably not for year-round living, although I'm sure you could if you wanted to.

I grew up in Smithville. It's still, very much, a small town. I'm sure the people that are renting houses are advertising locally. Like JMT said, most of the lake rentals are probably through management companies and are rented by the week. The local paper there is the Smithville Review. I don't know if they have a website?? but they may...you could check that. I'm sure there are houses for rent there....it's just going to be harder to find them if you aren't there, locally, looking for them. Heck...I barely get cell service when I'm over there. Don't get me wrong, it was a great place to grow up...but still a little behind the times. My closest friends that I have, to this day...I grew up with in Smithville.

By the way, I happen to like Smithville. There are some pretty trashy small towns in Tennessee, but Smithville isn't one of them. It's got a cute little downtown area, and the annual Smithville Jamboree is one of Tennessee's best kept secrets. I'm sure there are rentals to be had, but there can't be many since the entire county doesn't even have 19,000 people.

If the OP is looking for small towns in that area and can't find a good rental in Smithville, s/he might want to check out Carthage in Smith County which is, in my opinion, just as picturesque. Carthage is also a little closer to the interstate and isn't too far from either Center Hill or Cordell Hull lakes.

Default Local information

Anytime you need information from an area, remember the local Chamber of Commerce.

My family & I will also be relocating to Smithville in a couple of months. We are now in the process of finding a rental house, place of employment (I am a LPN), & information for special needs children (I have a special needs daughter). I would appreciate any kind of help.
Thanks

Call the Chamber of Commerce Mon. Thru Fri. From 9 -4 at 615-597-4163 for some more answers. NHC Nursing Home as well as The Webb House have been looking for LPNs.i don't know if they still are or not and the schools will have to be checked with for the educational part.

Good morning Wendy, I have two special needs children. Putnam County has many more services. We came from CA where we got everything and have been overwhelmed by how great the services are here. We have our children in public school which in Putnam county encourages inclusion. We have speech, OT and even PT in the school at each site. Cookeville has many groups that cater or encourage our littles. There is the Miss Fabulous Pageant in the fall and a christian group (find on facebook) Rising Above Ministries offers bible studies, weekend retreats, fun events, The Hope Ball, monthly church services all for the families and the individual. We have been overwhelmed with what we found here. My husband is a LPN and has not been as lucky with employment and had to take another job. If you have any more specific questions feel free to message me. There is also horse back riding in Algood for our littles. We have one child who has Ds and there are many support groups locally and in Nashville.
