I can't say how it compares to others, as it's my first dash cam, but I like it quite well. My only complaint is that it seems quite difficult to set the time. There's apparently some trick to it that I haven't been able to figure out.
It records full time, it senses "events" (whenever the car is jarred) and creates a separate 30 second recording, with the event in the middle, and you can manually trigger an "event", too. Video files are stored separately (full time recordings, events, manual triggers), so you can find the things you're looking for easily.
Someday I'll get the date/time thing sorted out. I don't really care all that much, though. The only problem with it is that it causes the order of the video files on the SD card to be jumbled.

does it loop and re record over old vids so you dont have to keep dumping data?
Op, I have been wanting to do this as well so I bought a cheap $30 one. It says it's 720p HD but it isn't the quality I'm looking for. I've been thinking about a GoPro but it's a bit pricey for just a dash cam. Also, I need the camera to auto-detect night and day because it's too difficult to reach the angled mounted dash cam and change settings manually. I also need the camera to automatically shut the display off after about 30 seconds but continue to record. Maybe there's a setting for that in the manual.
