We would be moving from PA and are totally unfamiliar with the area. We'd like to rent for a while before buying. Looking in the $2,500 to $3.000 per month range. And we'd need a "pet friendly" place since we have a cat and a labrador retriever.

Thanks in advance,

Kat

Check Craigslist.com. I rented an investment property I have there and it worked out great. I highly recommend it. Jay

Thanks, Jay.

I looked and saw several that looked good. Would Danbury be a "doable" commute for someone working in Norwalk or Stamford?

Danbury is doable. It would be about a 35 minute trip to the Merrit 7 Office complex in Norwalk, and about an hour to Stamford.

I would also check Realtor.com. I know my neighbor had his place for rent, but I just noticed the sign gone.

If you move to Norwalk ... stay away from SoNo (at least parts of it).

You may also want to try Stamford. Usually an opposite commute so not as bad as coming from other places North of Norwalk.

I'm going to be frank...and if it offends some people I apologize.

I would recommend Stamford over Danbury or Norwalk. Your best bet is Stamford. I have lived in all 3 cities, Norwalk is over crowded and full of degenerates, Danbury is a little white trash (although there are some nice areas); however the commute is honestly a killer (I've done it), and Stamford is your best bet. Stay away from the South End of Stamford (until they re-develop it), or as we like to say "south of the train tracks". I currently live in Stamford and it's b/c I couldn't deal with the people in Norwalk, or Danbury.

Of course, Stamford traffic can get a bit crazy, and sometimes I find myself going to Norwalk for shopping (Walmart/Home Depot), but the trade off is really all about the quality of living in Stamford as most people are young professionals; restaurants, parks, everything is fun. Plus, you and your husband will only be a train ride away from NYC, which I find very refreshing when feeling confined in Stamford.

Of course, this is just my opinion....I might be more biased b/c I've lived in Stamford on/off for many years and b/c it's so expensive I tended to float away, only to come back and pay the extra $$ for the better quality of life.

Merritt 7 is located on Route 7 in the north end of Norwalk, so it really is closest to the Danbury area and should be considered the shortest trip. Traffic on Route 7 during rush hour can be horrible thus increasing travel time dramatically. Stamford would be even longer. I believe you will be able to find something nice in Norwalk for that rent. Depends on what you would want for size. Good luck, Jay

If you're working in Norwalk or Stamford, I would highly recommend finding a home in Stamford or Norwalk instead of Danburya. The amount of money you will spend in gas and wear & tear on your vehicle, not to mention the commuting time and associated stress, is not worth the amount of money you would save in housing costs. You can find a nice home for $2,500 to $3,000 in either Stamford or Norwalk, and enjoy time with your family and friends with the time you save on the commute!
