Just moved to the Plainville area and am looking for really good vets/vet clinics for our dogs/cats. Any recommendations in the nearby areas?

Absolutely!!!!

Old Canal Veterinary Clinic

I'd recommend Dr. Fahey -- she's great! But they're all really good, I've heard. We've also seen Dr. Hexter, but I love Dr. Fahey. I have a really "difficult" dog and she really puts him at ease.

I think so highly of Old Canal that, even though we live in West Hartford, we go to Plainville for vet visits. There are plenty of vets in West Hartford, but I prefer to make the trek because I think so highly of Old Canal.

Not sure if you consider West Hartford close enough to Plainville? We take our lab to Veterinary Specialists of Connecticut on North Main Street. They've been great. She was a rescue, so had some issues coming into our home and they've always been right on with their suggestions.

Default local vets

I'm sorry I don't like Old Canal as much. I can not speak for the Dr.'s professionalism because I have taken my pets there as a patient, but I did use them to purchase prescription food when I first moved back here and didn't know were else to find it. There was sometimes a bit of attitude in the girls at the front desk which was totally unnecessary and their prices were a bit high. Since then I have been going to Advanced Veterinary Care on Rt. 6. They are very friendly and their prices are more reasonable. Also I have experienced being a patient there and they are very thorough in their diagnosis process. Over all, I always have a good experience with them.

If you want to stay local - I recommend Dr. Hexter at Old Canal in Plainville. My parents love him-he's been their vet for about 10 years and has taken excellent care of their current dog and their cat both of whom have had some serious medical problems.

I personally have used Vet Specialists in West Hartford, too, but only for two knee surgeries for one of my dogs and they were wonderful (Dr. Berzon).

Dr. Joe at Mountainlore Animal Hospital in Southington is awesome. I actually don't even know his last name offhand... I've just called him "Dr. Joe"!
