But this summer may be an exception in that area. Foxwoods just added 825 rooms in the area at a time when revenues have steeply declined for both casinos. The casinos have been much more aggressive with offers of cheap/"free" rooms in the past month or so. I'm sure this is going to put price pressure on hotels that are in their vicinity.

Sidenote to the OP: I'm not sure if you can obtain a casino player's card from Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun online, but if you can, it's likely that marketing will send you some sort of hotel offer.

Is Mystic still nice in Sept or is it too cold and late?

When we were in the process of relocating last spring, we stayed at the Mystic Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt Place. All were fine. Hyatt Place has free breakfast. Hilton is right across the street from the Aquarium and some shops, so it's very convenient.

Mystic in September will still be summer temps averaging 75-80 degrees on the first of the month, and 65-70 by months end.

It will be less crowded as well.

I've lived in Mystic and the Philly area. I would make a point to visit the aquarium, it's much better than the one in Camden. I have not stayed here or have first hand knowledge but this looks nice Inn at Lower Farm Bed and Breakfast, Mystic/North Stonington, Connecticut | Bed and Breakfast | Lodging | Inns | Travel | Accommodations |

Take a walk through the village, shops, etc. in Mystic Village. If you're beach person you can drive to the nearby beaches in Rhode Island. You're close to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos, even if you're not a gambler take a night out to go visit. It's impressive.

Mystic Village is nice, September should be perfect.

We bring one of the kids up once or twice a year and make a tradition of going to Mystic Pizza, it's fun. On the same side of the street, right before the drawbridge, is a little ice cream shop the kids love.

FYI - I just booked rooms at the Mystic Hyatt Place during Sept, when we plan to visit with the in-laws. Rates average $160.00 a night (incl taxes) with breakfast.

Question for all of you: I'm thinking visiting there on this holiday weekend also. My fear is that it's a tourist trap. I've been there 15 years ago, to the little shopping "village" in a parking lot. How is the actual town? Is it a tourist trap also? Is it fit for "grown ups" with no kids? I dont want to be walking into shop after shop looking at plastic whales and tye dyed shirts with the town named emblazoned on.

Past the aquarium and restaurants....what else is there?

Olde Mistick Village and Mystic Sea Life Aquarium are the two tourist attractions. Then there is the village, itself, that is quaint and separate.

Olde Mistick Village is a giant tourist trap. There is one cookware store there that is really good, the rest of it is junk. No need to go there though - I've lived here for five months and I volunteer four days a week at the Aquarium across the street and I've only been there once.

In addition to the Aquarium, there is also Mystic Seaport, which is a living history museum. There are a bunch of boat trips that you can take from the Seaport. If you look beyond Mystic, there are more things to do in the region. Stonington Borough is a cute village with good restaurants and a beach. New London has a few historical attractions. There are various boat trips you can take. Plus the two casinos with all of their shops, shows, and restaurants.
