Trying to avoid driving my car because of gas prices, I wanted to know what is the easiest way to travel to Shelton, CT from New Haven, CT daily...is there any public transportation I can take? -- info -- I recently moved to New Haven, husband works in Groton in the NAVY...I used to work in NY and got tired of the long commute..so now Im looking for jobs in CT. I got offered a position in Shelton but I dont want to drive to save money on gas since we spend already a lot with my husband driving to Groton everyday.

There are no trains to Shelton directly and most jobs are in suburban office parks there. I would check with Rideshare and see if they can arrange a car pool for you. Jay

Take the metro-north commuter train from New Haven to Bridgeport. When you exit the train at Bridgeport follow the walkway down to the bus station. They time the bus to wait for passengers transfering from the train. There is an express bus (route 22x) that will get you to Shelton in less than 15 minutes. Also check with your employer to find out if they have a shuttle bus or any other alternative.

I took the train from NYC to Bridgeport last Thursday. I arrived in Bport at 8:20pm and I was surprised to see the NYC bound platform was full of people. It looked like it does during rush hour. I imagine it is probably commuters that work in Bport or the corporate parks in Trumbull and Shelton taking the train home to Norwalk or Stamford. Gas prices are pushing more people to use mass transit.

Thank you Very much! I will discuss with employer if they have a shuttle bus or if the regular bus leaves me close by.

Default Quick way into New Haven

If no one has mentioned this to you the best way is to cross the river on Howe Ave. in Shelton into Derby & go eastbound on Rte. 34 which brings you right into New Haven.
