From New Britain the closest train is Amtrak in Berlin. Amtrak is expensive and doesn't have a very good schedule.

Your best option would be to drive to New Haven and take the Metro-North commuter train into the city. They run more trains and they are less expensive.

If you can't get a ride to New Haven then you can take the Peter Pan bus from New Britain to New York. Peter Pan runs 10 busses everyday out of New Britain (even more out of Hartford). Much less $$ than amtrak. The bus will drop you off at Port Authority in New York (42nd Street and 8th Avenue).

Waterbury also has Metro North service, albeit less frequently. Your best bet to get to NYC from New Britain using only public tranportation however is Peter Pan bus.
