Mmmm...I always say if "lightning strikes once" watch for that second storm. I won't be surprised if we get a little something from this.

It's funny how my "farmer logic" tends to be more accurate than these models sometimes. For instance on the last one, I was watching the ice damming on the CT river, when it stays blocked up we'll usually get a good one. It was moving again today, we'll see through the week.

Is that precipitation on the radar with a warm front by any chance? Also, 15 at Windham Airport near Willimantic, yet 42 at Groton/New London at the same time?

Wow what a temperature gradient over such a short distance! Also noticed a lot of 40s in the Great Lakes and Midwest on that map (and RAINING in Buffalo.....)

Yup. Both locations with no clouds so could it be Willimantic had a deeper snowpack? Actually... see my next post for the answer.

Here are the actual lows.. Interesting.

These 2 comments go hand in hand. Great Lake Storms are killers for Cold in the East but this explains the 40s on Long Island while teens and 20s in CT still.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
937 AM EST TUE JAN 26 2016

.SYNOPSIS...
DEEPENING LOW PRESSURE LIFTS NORTHEAST OF THE GREAT LAKES THIS MORNING AND INTO EASTERN CANADA.

DUE TO A STRENGTHENING SOUTHERLY FLOW AT THE COAST...TEMPS HAVE RISEN REMARKABLY IN SOME SPOTS BY AS MUCH AS 15 TO 20 DEGREES OVER THE LAST SEVERAL HOURS. LOCATIONS ACROSS LI ARE WERE MAINLY AROUND 40...WHILE AREAS INLAND AND LOCATIONS WHERE THE WINDS HAS YET TO
PICK UP REMAIN IN THE TEENS AND 20S. THERE IS CONCERN FOR THOSE LOCATIONS STILL BELOW FREEZING FOR BLACK ICE FROM NOT ONLY THE REFREEZING OF MELTED SNOW...BUT ALSO FROM THE INCREASING LOW- LEVEL MOISTURE IN THE SOUTHERLY FLOW WHICH COULD CONDENSATE ON SURFACES DUE TO THE SNOWPACK. THERE IS EVEN PATCHY FOG.

That and the map you posted right before might also explain why despite 40s on the coast, there's a Freezing Rain Advisory in Philly (where normally temperatures are similar or slightly warmer):

Thank you for noting those big temperature differences!

I've noticed the clouds and the south breeze blowing here in New Britain's south end. It's also no less than 40 degrees now.

I asked a weather question on the Vermont page, but maybe I can ask it here, too:

Is there any snow on the ground in Brattleboro, VT? I know they got NOTHING from the massive snow storm of the weekend. It's just that I could head up I-91 towards that area on Thursday and was curious. I'd have to have a long walk up US Route 5 if I go there.

The walk would be from the Greyhound agent at the LiptonMart Shell station by Price Chopper up to the area with the Exit 3 rotary. (I did that walk 3 times in August and survived it! Ha ha!)

I got 7" on ground at 7am. I measure every morning.

OK. Thank you, sir! I know parts of northern New England had snow the previous weekend, so it was probably from that event. Looks like they're between 4 to 6 inches there.
