Hello...new to CT from western Ma and still trying to find some items that seemed quite easy to find near us in Ma.

1. Is there a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) anywhere near (less than 10 miles) Ellington, CT? We belonged to one in our town in Ma for the last 7 years and are interested in joining one again for this summer. Now that we have a house, we hope to get our own veg/herb garden going, but this year might be too soon - so until then we would love to find a local CSA.

2. Looking for local real estate auctions - where would we find them near Ellington? Our town used to have them quite frequently and you could find some nice desks/tables for not too much money. We are trying to furnish our almost bare house! Yes, we have looked in newspapers and can't seem to find any...

3. Local health food shops...are there any closer than Manchester (have been to Parkade Health Shoppe) or West Hartford...

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

You might find some info by contacting
Tolland County Agricultural Center, Inc. 24 Hyde Avenue ~ Vernon, CT 06066 ~ 860-875-5714

Also, they use have auctions at the TAC building too...not sure
if they still have it tho.

Parkade Health Food shop is the closest health food store
to Vernon Ellington. (i go there also)

There is a great auction in Canton at the Canton Barn. We bought a number of nice pieces there at reasonable prices and they offer homemade pie for dessert. There is also an auction in Wethersfield (Clearing House Auction Gallery on Church Street) that is pretty good. And there is Nadeau's Auction House on Meadow Street in Windsor. Jay

I second the Canton Barn suggestion. My husband and I go there often. I blogged about it awhile back... In the Neighborhood » Blog Archive » Fun at the Canton Barn

As for CSA, we have a great program in Granby, CT at Holcomb Farm. You can buy 1/2 or full shares...approx 30min from Ellington.
