Hi,

My husband will be traveling daily for office in danbury from windsor in winter. How much time it takes from windsor to danbury and from danbury to windsor. I am worried how he is going to travel during snow fall. Distance is 70miles. Has anybody any idea, its OK to travel daily?

Thanks,
Lily

Ouch. That's a long commute. Traffic is going to be a pain, especially in bad weather. Could become 2 hours one way on some days.

That's a long commute, and even worse if there's bad weather. Danbury gets backed up going eastbound almost daily. And if there's an accident around Southbury (think jack knifed tractor trailers), that'll delay things even more. Maybe he can find a cheap motel near the office in case the commute is a mess.

Is it possible? Technically, yes. In reality it will be hell on earth.

Any commute involving I-84 through Hartford, Waterbury, or Danbury is awful. Driving through all three areas in one commute will likely be enough to drive one mad, and that's on nice weather days.

i worked in Hartford while still living in Danbury and it was ~60 miles each way. took at least an hour each way and you have to take 84 which is always a major pain. add probably another half hour coming from Windsor.

I commuted from Vernon to Milford every day for about 3 months and it was horrible. It took one hour. On Fridays it always took 1.5 hours. If you hit traffic, it took even longer. I think Windsor to Danbury would be a nightmare. I remember one snowstorm, it took a co-worker 8 hours to get from Hartford to Norwalk!

Even on average days (average traffic), Hartford<=>Southbury can be an hour.. add the time from Danbury->Southbury and the extra piece to windsor and you're definitely talking 1h45-2 hours on a normal day. Could easily take 3 hours with bad weather/snow driving.

On some very bad weather days it took me 3 hours for a return commute from Hartford/Wethersfield line to the west end of Southbury.

You'd have to be utterly insane to do this unless it's very off-hours and only in the summer or something.

I used to drive from Danbury to Bloomfield and back a lot during off hours. Without traffic, it was a little over an hour. But I learned to hate the stretch of 84 between Danbury and Hartford. Too narrow, too windy, too many elevation changes with too many trucks that can't stay in their own lane. It can be a white knuckle ride in bad weather.

Thanks a lot for the reply guys. As I don't know driving, is there any other place in between to live which will help my husband to travel less and I can travel by cab from that place to Windsor?
